Admissions to Barling Magna Primary Academy

For children who join us from other schools and have not followed the induction process, we ask that parents contact the class teacher after the child has been in school for about a week in order to see how things are going and to see that the child is settled in school.

Should you and your child be joining us after the reception year, then I will only be too pleased to talk to you and your child during a school day and will take you on a tour of the school in order for you to see children and staff at work.

    Proposed Admissions Arrangements 2020-21

In accordance with the Schools Admissions Code, we have now published our proposed 2020/21 admission arrangements.

Responses to the proposed arrangements are being collected and managed by our trust's head office at Great Wakering Primary Academy. Should you wish to make any comments or if you have any questions, please email: admin@greatwakering.essex.sch.uk by Friday 25th January 2019.

    1.Introduction

Full information about the procedures for applying for a place for your child at Barling Magna Primary Academy can be found in the Primary Education in Essex booklet which is available from the local authority during the Autumn term.  This includes information about all the local schools, how to make an application and how to appeal if you are not successful.

All parents who are seeking a place at our Academies, must apply to the Council in which they reside. This is done by completing the relevant Application Form available online.

Applications are made online from November to January. Parents may apply for up to three schools in preference order. The application form must be returned to the relevant Local Authority before the January deadline.  Every eligible Essex resident, as far as practicable, will be offered a single Essex school place by March/April. Exact dates will be published each year.

This statement is our admissions policy and supersedes any previous statements issued.

This statement has been drafted in consultation with our Trustees and other stakeholders in line with the Statutory School Admissions Code.

    2.Barling Magna Primary Academy Policy

Children are legally entitled to a place in school at the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.  The Brickfields Trust has adopted the LEA general policy whereby children can be admitted full time from the September before the child's 5th birthday.

    3.Admission procedure

There is no guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admission area.
In the event of oversubscription places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:

    1. Looked After Children
    2. Children living in the priority admission area with a sibling attending the school

    3. Other children living in the priority admission area
    4. Children living outside the priority admission area with a sibling attending the school

    5. Other applications

In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.

Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above (other than Looked After Children).

4.Arrangements for parents to visit the school

Annual Open Days are held for parents of the next year’s intake children during the Autumn Term. Parents will have the opportunity for a guided tour of the school with members of the teaching staff. You will have the opportunity to talk to staff informally and ask any questions you may have.

Additional arrangements can be made to visit the school by appointment with the Headteacher, who will be pleased to see parents, show them the school, provide further information and answer questions.

5.When will my child start school?

If allocated a place at Barling Magna Primary you will be offered a full time place from the September following your child’s 4th birthday. We ensure that our EYFS provision is carefully adapted to meet the needs of all our children including the youngest.

Parents do still have the right to request part time provision until their child reaches compulsory school age which is the term of their 5th birthday If you would like to do this please contact the Headteacher to discuss individual arrangements.
